Mary Ann’s bench

I can’t remember all the details… it was 0ver 30 years ago. I found this somewhat mysterious bench at a Salvation Army store in Syracuse, NY. I went there after each prenatal visit as a bit of a treat and the bench appeared one time. I dragged Malcolm along the next day to see what he thought and to help carry the thing home. He deemed it “perfect”, as I did. The three sided top section is very handy for a jeweler. Lots of space for all the stuff one needs close at hand. Our main problem was that we drove an old VW beetle and the trip was about 40 miles. We’d carried all sorts of stuff on top of the VW before so it wasn’t such a big deal but I hadn’t been 8 months pregnant before. We managed to balance the bench on the roof, lash it on and drive home without any incident but I remember feeling a kinship to the bulbous roof of the VW with it’s strange cargo as I pondered my own round belly. It all turned out well. I have a wonderful bench AND a wonderful daughter!
